Quick Description
Players start the scene with a word that begins with the letter “A”, and follow the alphabet in subsequent dialogue until they reach the letter “Z”.
How to Play
The first playerâs sentence/speech of the scene begins with an âAâ, the second with a âBâ, and so on through the alphabet. The final sentence/speech of the scene must begin with a âZâ. (K*)
Put another way
A fun challenge. Boy, this fun game challenges the players to create dialogue that follows the sequence of the alphabet. Can you do it? Do try it. Enjoy. For a few variations, look below. Go ahead and create your own. Have a blast.
Variation
I’ve seen this often start with “A” and finish with “Z”. Just so you know, you can also ask for a letter to start the scene. Keep playing until you get to that letter again.
Notes
Luckily you can determine if the new letter of the changes with each person speaking or each sentence. Make your own rules. Normally the letter changes with each speaker. Open with a suggestion or not.
People sometimes play that if you mess up the audience starts to make noise. Quite them by saying the correct letter. Ride the wave.
Sometimes it’s fun to have more than 2 players. That way it won’t be like taking turns. Use your gut to make the choice.
X-ray vision won’t help you. You have to know the alphabet. Zombies cannot play this game.
Origin
Viola Spolin and Neva Boyd came up with this game. Would make sense, wouldn’t it.
